"For the Knox County Board of Education, we endorse incumbent Karen Carson for a second term. Carson, a pediatric nurse at East Tennessee Children's Hospital, currently serves as chairman of the nine-member school board. Her goals in a second term are to recruit and retain quality teachers; increase the focus on family and parental involvement, making the schools family-friendly; and continuing to be accessible. She prides herself on returning phone calls and e-mails within 48 hours and holding community forums when issues arise. Two new schools will be in her 5th District, Hardin Valley Academy and Cedar Bluff Elementary. She has been an asset to the board and to the community. "
